First big walk fully kitted out with gear. Only 13 kilometres, we are slowly increasing distances & trialling different things, such as, variety of ways of lacing hiking shoes, socks with liners or without. I haven't bothered with either because I only have liners but my new innovation is using lambs wool insoles. Loved the walk yesterday. Very, very high with views of the ocean and north to Surfers Paradise and North Stradbroke Island. We ate lunch at Numinbah Lookout. Manny placed his back pack between himself and the precipice then proceeded to nearly knock it over the edge which caused much hilarity

This was our third BluesFest but our first as ticket holders, in previous years we were volunteers. Was it better I hear you ask? It was different experience and more of a holiday which as we are both working full-time was a benefit. On the face of it, the line up seemed less appealing than previous years but one of the pleasures of Festivals is discovering new bands and rediscovering old ones you’d forgotten. So, all in all, we had a fabulous time. Ran into some of the volunteers we’d met in previous years which was nice and enjoyed the wonderful food including the famous “organic donuts” of which we had way too many. There were many great bands but the stand out for me was and I never in a million years thought I’d say this but Tom Jones. He still has “it”, the it that may have faded in some of the other older performers. He was extraordinary and the entire audience sang along with him. Thanks to our friend Sara & her husband who got there early, saved brilliant seats for us. Sunday, 15th May Neither of us had participated in an event like this before but it was a good motivation to get us training through the hot summer weather. I was a bit nervous about the other riders and being out on the roads with cars but the GBBR was very well organised and I really enjoyed the experience. The Inner City Bypass was closed to cars for the ride and it was wonderful to experience cycling through what is normally a busy inner city thoroughfare. |
